ROPE-A-DOPE

The possibility of finding the real thing

made me ready to love you

A past full of hurt made you ready to spar

-refusing to give in to love without a fight

I never wanted confrontation

but still I stepped into the ring

We touched gloves

and you lingered for a moment

- looking at me like you wanted to concede

The bell rang

we danced around for a moment

throwing pitty pat punches

trying not to hurt each other

Then out the blue

you hit me with a sucker punch

and I was stunned

You started to stick and move

Body shots weighted with unwillingness

had me winded and confused

A hit below the belt

dropped me to my knees

You said I'm just not the one for you

and I was

down

for

the

count

I scrambled to my feet

and was saved by the bell

We retreated to our corners

- everyone on my side

pleaded for me to throw in the towel

but I refused to give up

Your love had me up against the ropes

now I'm comin' out swingin

We threw off our gloves

and got tangled in fisticuffs

I threw jabs

of kisses

and attention

you blocked

refusing to let me connect

I want you

-left hook

I need you

-right hook

I love you

-uppercut

We delivered simultaneous haymakers

-you threw I'm just not ready

I countered with your worth the wait

and now

we're both laying in the ring

punch drunk

bruised

bloody

battered

They say love is a battle

but they never tell us

what we are fighting for

ALLURE

Inspired by the painting "Allure" by Demar Douglas

Watch while I move across the room

Coming closer

Seductively slivering

Coming closer

Intent fully enticing

Coming closer

Watch while I move my hands across my skin

Coming closer

Softly skimming

Coming closer

Barely brushing

Coming closer

Watch while I move my gaze to yours

Coming closer

Smokey smoldering

Coming closer

Peering piercing

Coming closer

Smell the fragrance swiped on my wrist

Coming closer

Feel the warm breeze from my breath

Closer

Hear the rhythm of my beating heart

Closer

Closer

So close

You are paralyzed

Stuck in my widow’s web

Watch as I pass you by

Linger in my

Allure.

CONSERVATION

Your

flashing

flickering

on

and

off

and

off

and

on

illuminating

my life

showering me with lovely neon rays

rolling blackouts

leaving me in the dark

flashing

flickering

on

and

off

and

off

and

on

sparking my body

electrifying currents

disconnection notice in red writing

dead

batteries

flashing

flickering

on

and

off

and

off

and

on

your strobe-light emotions

are giving me a headache

busting out bulbs

pulling out the plug

I need to

conserve

my energy
